Replacement Value for Insurance
Replacement value for insurance is defined as the highest price in terms of cash or other precisely revealed terms that would be required to replace property with another of similar age, quality, origin, appearance, provenance, and condition, within a reasonable length of time in an appropriate market. Since items involved in an appraisal are either one of a kind or were produced in a very limited quantity, this definition assumes that an item cannot be replaced with an exact duplicate. Therefore, additional consideration must be made for the replacement as to artistic merit, desirability, characteristics, and period of execution.
